Ruth HogueIndependence is very important to me; that is why I use Prodigy® meters. My name is Ruth Hogue and I have been a diabetic for 34 years. At the age of 8, I was diagnosed with juvenile onset diabetes. Growing up with diabetes was a challenge and became even more so when I became a teen and wanting to be like everyone else. Keeping control of my diabetes wasn’t always a priority to me, and I was always aware of the possibility of complications if I did not watch what I ate, exercised, and took my insulin regularly. Unfortunately, I did get complications and at the age of 21; I lost my sight due to diabetic retinopathy. It was at this point I realized exactly how important blood glucose management is if I wanted to stay healthy and slow down or prevent further complications, but now I was in a real jam – I needed a talking blood glucose meter since I no longer had sight. I value my independence greatly and so now the search was on for a talking blood glucose meter.

The Accu-chek Voicemate was developed but the cost was more than I could afford at a cost of roughly 500 dollars per unit. It too, was big and cumbersome consisting of 2 pieces about the size of a small brick. This was not an acceptable solution to my dilemma.

Then a friend told me about the Prodigy® Audio meter. I checked out the information and found it to be exactly what I was looking for and I ordered one. It was a great start and from there the Prodigy® meters just got better and better until the Prodigy®  Voice meter was developed. This meter gave me the full independence I was looking for. Now, I can test my blood glucose without asking for assistance from neighbors, family, and friends.

The Prodigy® Voice meter has all the features of the original meter plus more which I find useful. The Prodigy® Voice meter repeats the readings if I need results to be repeated; I can set the meter up by myself and I can also retrieve my historic results for myself as well as get the 7, 14, 21, 28, 60, 90 day blood glucose averages. All these tools help me to manage my diabetes. My husband Paul, who is also visually impaired, no longer has to strain his eyes trying to read my meter with his limited vision if I am having a hypoglycemic reaction. The independence the Prodigy® meters has given me also allowed me to release the health care aid that used to come in twice a week to help read the meter. It is with great gratitude that I say thank you Diagnostic Devices, Inc. for giving me back my independence!

    Thank you,

    Ruth Hogue

Steve Colin  Why I need Prodigy® Meters?

I have owned two other well known meters and they do not work.  There are a few reasons why I need the Prodigy® meter.  I have a compromised circulatory system in which I currently have 3 Stents in my legs.  This makes blood flow an issue. I really can not take the pain in my fingertips.  Other site testing in other meters never worked because of sample size requirements.

What I have found with Prodigy®?

The best place to test is the palm for me.  My Internet research confirmed to me that the palm has many capillaries, therefore a rich blood supply, and sugar level measurement is virtually the same as the fingertip.  There is not much pain (if any) compared to fingertips. Because the Prodigy® uses a much smaller blood sample for testing the blood that does come out of my palm which is very limited is more than enough for the meter.  Maybe every fifth time I need to prick myself twice.

I did not believe there was an alternative to the other two meters.  Well I found it.

It’s about time!  Thank you Prodigy® Meters!

    Thank you Prodigy® Meters?

My Prodigy Voice glucose meter arrived on Thursday evening and I cannot tell you how fantastic this machine is and just cant thank you enough.  It is clear spoken and easy to use. I am so happy with the device and have a new found sense of independence.  I am also probably the only or one of few blind people in South Africa to have this machine.

Should there be anything what so ever I can do for you regarding the launch of this product in South Africa, please let me know.

     Again, thank you.

I am a diabetic who is blind and I have been using the Prodigy Talking Meter for about eight months and I like it very much. The meter is small and easy to use. I am checking my blood sugars more frequently and attaining much better control of my diabetes than ever before.

The talking and no-code features are unique and I think will be very useful in helping my patients better control their glucose levels.

I am a blind diabetic and have had the chance to use one of the original Prodigy meters. The meter is a pleasure to use.   I have used another brand for many years, but I much prefer the Prodigy since it uses less blood, is faster and it is so much smaller.
                                                               - Prodigy Meter User

I am so impressed with the small blood sample and short test time, not to mention the audio feature.

This meter is great!  The audible instructions are very clear and concise and the “on/off” button is large and easy to find for anyone who may be visually impaired.

First of all, the meter itself looks great.  It’s not at all bulky and very well designed.  I gave one to a patient of mine who has very poor vision and she was absolutely thrilled.  Thank you so much for filling this niche.

This meter is of great help to my mother.
                                                               - Prodigy Meter User

This meter works very well.  I especially like the fact that it has an adjustable volume that you can hear across the room.
                                                               - Diabetes Educator

Well first let me say I love this meter! I love the fact that it is compact and very easy to use. It is great that it only takes such a small amount of blood to test with and that I can easily put it in my purse to take on the go. As a visually impaired  individual  I need the  compact size and relatively easy use as I have so much  other stuff I have to carry with me on a daily basis  that a sighted person does not have to deal with.
                                                               - Prodigy Meter User

I love the fact that the test strips are less than half the price I used to pay. This is great for my fixed income which allows me to test even more and enables me to keep even tighter control of my diabetes.  I also  like the fact that  this  meter uses  AAA batteries and I don’t have to comb the city to find those expensive round flat batteries that were  very  hard  to find and  in  limited supply.
                                                               - Prodigy Meter User

It is great that this is a talking glucometer. I strongly recommend this meter to those who are visually impaired and even to those who are sighted like my twin brother. Keep up the great work and thanks for finally making a glucometer that is in every sense of great use to the visually impaired.
                                                               - Prodigy Meter User

This meter works very well for my patient.  She loves the independence it gives her.
                                                               - Diabetes Educator

The Prodigy is a great meter for a few reasons. The audio feature is great and the size with that feature is wonderful! The large size of most audio meters is one of the dissatisfactions my patient has with other audio meters so it definitely met her needs that way. I haven't tried to convert it to Spanish but what a great idea on your company's part. The price of the meter and strips are also a great thing! So many patients are not able to afford strips so this will help a lot.
                                                               - Diabetes Educator

Our Patients are having great success using this meter.
                                                               - Diabetes Educator

We would like to tell people that we use the Prodigy AutoCode Blood Glucose Monitoring System on our patients before we do any procedures in the office.  It is really good if the patient is saying something we can hear the meter tell us the results.  We would recommend it to anyone!
