    General Information: NC Members

    Summary: Why?

Starting November 15, 2009, the State of NC changed the brand of diabetes supplies Medicaid members have to use.  They wanted to make sure everyone gets the best meter possible and they chose Prodigy®.  This meter actually talks in English and Spanish (can turn the talking off) and is very accurate.  All Medicaid members must switch over to this meter right away.  You should be able to get it at no cost to you from your local drug store or we can give you a company to call for home delivery!

    Who is Prodigy?

Prodigy® makes one of the best blood sugar testing meters on the market.  We are located in Charlotte, NC.  Our meter talks in English or Spanish (can turn talking off) and is fast and accurate.  It’s also very easy to set up and use and doesn’t need to be coded each time — it’s ready to go.  Your doctor can help you with diabetes and setting up your meter.  You should be able to get it from wherever you are getting your diabetes supplies now.

    Who’s affected?

All Medicaid members must use Prodigy® brand monitors and supplies after November 15, 2009.  Members that have Medicare or third party insurance as well do not have to change, but Prodigy® is available to them as well.

    What’s affected?

All blood sugar testing supplies must be Prodigy® brand, primarily the Prodigy AutoCode®.  This includes the meter, test strips, lancets, control solutions, as well as syringes if necessary.

    When?

Effective November 15, 2009.  The State should have sent a letter to you on Friday, October 16.

    How do I get supplies?

You should be able to continue to get your supplies from your local drug store or mail-order company.  With your zip code, you can look up available retailers in your area.

    What is the Cost

Medicaid covers the entire cost of diabetes supplies for its members. For more information, please contact CARE-LINE with NC Medicaid Department of Health and Human Services at 800-662-7030, www.nccarelink.gov.
